  5. The mathrec package</A> includes several X11 clients written by Dr. Ronald
  6. Joe Record who holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of
  7. California. Programs in the mathrec package include :

  9. <LI><B>endo</B> - calculate and display iteratated endomorphisms of the plane
  10. <LI><B>lyap</B> - calculate and display Lyapunov exponents of the iterated
  11. logistic map
  12. <LI><B>stars</B> - calculate and display a star field with controls
  13. <LI><B>coral</B> - calculate and display a coral growth simulation
  14. <LI><B>gasket</B> - calculate and display Serpinski gaskets
  15. <LI><B>hop</B> - calculate and display iterated parametric equations
  16. <LI><B>julia</B> - calculate and display Julia sets
  17. <LI><B>mandel</B> - calculate and display Mandelbrot sets (clicking the middle
  18. mouse button on a point in the Mandelbrot set will generate a window with the
  19. corresponding Julia set)
  20. <LI><B>lds</B> - calculate and display Lattice Dynamical Systems (also known
  21. as coupled map lattices)
  22. <LI><B>madness</B> - calculate and display various kinds of curves and stuff
  23. <LI><B>splines</B> - calculate and display spline curves
  24. <LI><B>spore</B> - calculate and display simulated spore growth
  25. <LI><B>xtopo</B> - calculate and display simulated topographic maps
  26. <LI><B>xwator</B> - calculate and display a simulation of fish and shark
  27. population dynamics over time

  30. Most of the programs in the mathrec package work best with an 8 bit
  31. PseudoColor visual (i.e. 256 colors in a colormap). However, they can
  32. be run with a TrueColor visual (some features will not be present).
  33. <P>
  34. Many interesting sample runs are provided as shell scripts in subdirectories
  35. in /usr/local/mathrec. For instance, sample runs of the lyap program with
  36. preset parameters are in the directory /usr/local/mathrec/lyap and those
  37. for the endo program are in /usr/local/mathrec/endo.
